Our journey starts in Swakopmund and heads through Walvis Bay to the Walvisbay Lagoon. This Ramsar acclaimed wetland is home to thousands of Flamingos, past the enormous Saltworks, Pink salt lakes and the lagoon with 300 000 birds, 54 species of resident and palearctic migrators, including Avocets, Terns, Pelicans, Egrets, Plovers and Sandpipers. Birders note!

We turn north towards Pelican Point to view the 50 000 strong Cape Fur Seal colony. We see black backed Jackal amongst the many birds and maybe Brown Hyena tracks. We walk as close to the sunbathing Seals as we can, to Photograph, smell and hear these likable animals. Thinking Sammy the seal is out there somewhere. The light House at Pelican point stands out amongst huge Ships in the bay.

This rich birdlife is best experienced on a guided tour. This short Tour is a photographers’ dream.
